Legal Translation
Legal translation is the translation of texts within the field of law.
The legal system and language referred to in the source text will be structured in a manner appropriate to the culture in question. As a result, it is important that someone who is familiar with this legal system and its language reads the target text.
Our translators are carefully chosen and tested to ensure that even very complex legal information is conveyed accurately. Many of our legal translators are Attorneys or Lawyers with a language degree.
Legal requirements
For legal and official purposes, evidentiary documents and other official documentation are usually required in the official language(s) of jurisdiction. In some countries, the translator has to swear an oath when translating such documents to attest that it is the legal equivalent of the source text. Often, only a special category of translators is authorised to swear such oaths. In some cases, the translation is only accepted as a legal equivalent if accompanied by the original or a sworn or certified copy. Even if a translator specialises in legal translation or is a lawyer in his/her country, this does not necessarily make him/her a sworn translator. The procedure for translating to achieve legal equivalence differs from country to country.
